Scale guide

HRC20.3 – 80 HRC

Hardened steels and cutting tools. The most common scale in CNC machining.

HRB41 – 99.5 HRB

Annealed steels, aluminum, brass — low to medium hardness materials.

HV85 – 1865 HV

Universal range. Internal reference axis for all conversions.

HB81 – 745 HB

Cast and forged parts. Above HRC 47.7 a carbide ball (WC) is required.

Empirical approximation (±5%). Does not replace a mechanical tensile test.

Model limitations

  • Valid only for non-austenitic steels (carbon, alloy, tool steel). Not applicable to austenitic stainless, aluminum or other non-ferrous metals.
  • Linear interpolation error < 1% in dense-point zones and up to ~3% in sparse zones (HRC 68-80).
  • UTS only available where the reference table publishes correlation; outside that range the field shows '—'.
  • HB values with WC ball (HV ≥ 480) are not equivalent to those measured with a standard steel ball.
